An iPhone bike mount is the next best thing for cycling fans across the globe. This practical and useful item gives iPhone enthusiasts the opportunity to take their smartphones and apps with them on the road or even off the beaten track. A smartphone attached to a bicycle can act as a navigation system, provide entertainment in the form of music or as many cyclists are using, act as a bike computer. With the ever increasing range of cycling apps available, cyclists of all ages and experience can have access to this smart technology that was once only available to an elite few.
New cycling applications are being released every day. They are readily available in the iTunes store for download. Offering sophisticated functionality, cyclists are using them to monitor their heart rates, track their activity, plot routes, measure their speed and distance travelled and as mentioned before, as a GPS.
The problem however, has always been how to carry the smartphone on a cycle safely and securely. Carrying the phone in a bag defeats the purpose of having access to all the necessary information when its needed.
Some carry the phone with them attached to an armband or in an armband attached to the bicycle. Accessing the phone still remains a problem and the phone is quite heavy, so carrying it in an armband is extremely uncomfortable.
Some have tried tying the phone to the handlebars using cable ties and other similar DIY methods, like in the armband tied to the bicycle. Depending on the bicycle and the road or off-road conditions, this may or may not work. Usually, the cyclist lands up having to work on a more permanent solution.
The phone case itself should be sleek and not interfere with handling of the bike, especially the brake or gear cables. It should also allow for the positioning of the phone in either landscape or portrait position for enhanced viewing. For safety reasons, it would help if there is a quick release locking mechanism that can be operated with one hand.
Some people try building their own phone holders. These usually turn out to be temporary fixes because they are not sturdy enough to keep the smartphone in place and handle the bicycles vibrations. These initially inexpensive solutions can prove to be expensive in the long run if the phone gets damaged.
The iPhone bike mount provides a smart and efficient way for cyclists to use the functionality of the iPhone and its cycling apps to their best advantage. Cycling computers were usually only owned by a few elite people that could afford them. Now everyone can have access to a cycling computer via their smartphone and bike mount. The GPS apps actually provide more information than traditional cycling computers and sync more seamlessly and effortlessly with other devices.
