Preparing For Home Schooling

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

So you have decided to home school your child(ren). What next? Here are a couple of questions to ask yourself before you go on. Do you have what it takes? Are you, yourself disciplined enough to be a good teacher?

Could you dedicate the time required to home school? Will you be able to supply the right texts and supplies that are needed? With these questions answered there are other things that have to be dealt with.

There are some state, country, and local regulations that have to be followed. Every state is different so you need to check the state that you live in. Depending on the state, you may be obliged to be licensed or to be certified. Check to see if there are extraordinary needs you may have to meet to be able to home school.

Some states need that you purchase certain texts and equipment. This will be something that you need to check out. Some cities will permit you to come to the school and check out the text books that they are using for the year you will be homeschooling. This is well worth looking into. It could save you a lot of money and time.

Record keeping is a wise idea to show what curricula you have or are teaching your child(ren). A set schedule would be the best manner to teach your child as that will give them a classroom atmosphere.

This will permit them to play with their friends when regular school is out for the day also. A class at home usually will not take as long as one in a school as there are not as many pupils to teach.

It is very necessary that you and your child(ren) are well disciplined. You need to be able to be firm to make certain that the lessons are being done and the curriculum you are teaching is presented well so that your child can learn.

Your presentation needs to be enjoyable for your child. You are the one that will need to make your son/daughter want to learn and have fun doing it.

Endeavour to make your schooling as entertaining and pleasant as you can. Too much pressure or too many activities may overwhelm a child. This could cause some concerns with future schooling. Always make certain you are teaching the grade level that is appropriate for your child(ren). Wait until they have mastered the year they are in before presenting harder events to them.

Field trips are something that is of significance to a child. If you are not able to take your child(ren) on a field trip then check with the school and see if there is a way whereby they could go with the appropriate class.

Joining a support group would become a benefit to you. This manner you container discuss and learn how other parents may become handling any complaints of homeschooling. If all of this sounds decent and you are able to meet the requirements then you will be on your way to home school your child(ren).

How Families Use LeapFrog Connect

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

Leapfrog sells games for their devices according to age and grade level. This means that each child who uses a device may have lots of games, which makes it hard for parents to keep track of their progress. This doesn’t have to be an issue anymore, though, with the use of a program called LeapFrog Connect. It lets you keep track of all games, devices and game results at the click of a mouse.

All a parent has to do to use this great service is go to the official Leapfrog website to join the program. Start a new account and download the software that is offered. It will download directly to your computer, meaning there is no additional toy or device to buy in order to use it.

Once downloaded, it is time to install the program. You must create a login and password and go through a few customizations to help make using the software easier and more personal. Once this is done, you must gather up each device you wish to keep tabs on.

Each device that you want to work with the program must be individually set up to do so. All you need is a USB cord. Plug the USB cord into the computer you just downloaded the software onto, then plug into the device. The program will sync the two, allowing parents to keep tabs on it.

After each device is connected, parents may then use the software to connect to each device and see your child’s progress. This gives you the chance to see which subjects your child excels in and which ones offer opportunities to do better. For example, a child could excel at math but have a harder time with reading, which can be deduced by their Leapfrog results.

If you feel that your child needs help in a subject, you can sit down and talk about it together. Communicating about progress and lack of progress helps the child get better. Make a plan to help the child in problem areas, which will help them succeed instead of struggle, increasing their progress.

Leapfrog gives rewards and achievement recognition to users of their toys once they have reached or surpassed certain goals or levels. The program lets parents track these as well. Sit down and discuss these with your child. Discussion of accomplishments in addition to areas of opportunity gives them confidence. A nice shot of self esteem carries over into all areas of a child’s life, not just learning or academic.

Parents and children can use LeapFrog Connect to truly connect both about learning and about life. It encourages them to spend time talking and learning together. It also enhances what they are already learning at school, which means grades could rise as they play. To kids it’s just a game but they are learning the whole time they are playing. This makes using the program a great idea for the entire family.

Having Trouble With The Lockers

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

There could be a chance where you may run into a construction site while spending the day with your family. If you are at a water park, they may be adding new water rides. At any other amusement park they may be adding more roller coasters. When people are building more rides for you to try in parks, they also feel the need to add more metal lockers because it is very inconvenient to walk from one side of the park all the way over to the other side and back again just to get what you need out of the locker.

There are several benefits having a place where you can put your own belongings, but their also may be some disadvantages. You could keep your things safe from being damaged by water or being lost on a ride, it costs a few bucks more than your ticket to get in, you may lose your key, someone could steel your stuff, and you would have to walk back and forth to where your things are throughout the day.

Even with new rides built in it is really nice that you will always have a place to put your things. People who design amusement parks and the contractors who build everything also keep your feelings in mind because they know how hard it is to keep track of your stuff and worrying all the time if it is going to be fine unattended especially with all of the money you may have brought with you.

You want to be prepared to remember that if other places in the same park charge you to use their locker for the day, then you can guarantee that the new ones will be just the same. Another important reminder is that some parks charge only a quarter but you have to put it in every time you need to get in and out.

It may be too hot for you to walk back and forth every time you need something out of your locker but you may not have any choice. Every time you go back and forth you may have trouble getting into the locker because either you have too many things in there or it jammed or because you were issued a bad locker that keeps getting stuck every time you try to open it.

Once the locker section is available for use, make sure that if they give you a key to use for the day that you are not going to let it slip away. A good place to put it would be on your ankle unless you are letting a tiny person be in charge of it.

It can definitely ruin your day if you find out that someone has broken or has tried to break into your locker with the key they found. People like that should always turn it in if they find something that does not belong to them but some people are so desperate for money they would do anything.

It is always nice and useful when new lockers are added to the park. It can be even nicer once you have minimized your trips to the locker and have taken more advantage and fun filled activities you have with your family.

Are you in need of lockers assembled at your facility? Well now you can have access to top quality school lockers and metal lockers which have aesthetic appeal.

Is It OK To Download Computer Software From The Internet?

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Do you ever wonder whether it is safe to download items off the Net? I know that I am asked that question several times a month. The fact is, that it depends, like most solutions. It depends on two basic factors: how good your defences are and where you are downloading from.

You may be thinking: well, if my defences are decent, why would it matter where I download from and that is a decent question, but so is: what do you think of as good protection?

If your idea of good protection is a free version of Avira, then you are going to have trouble. One day or another you will have problems, guaranteed. I can say that with my hand on my heart, because they have a paid version too. If the free version is as good as the paid version, why do people pay?

Because they are stupid? I do not think so. By the way, I am not having a go at Avira! They give away a marvelous product and as long as you are cautious, it might be all you require. Avira and all the other good anti-virus software suites require a little help to keep you secure.

For instance, they will require you to run a firewall at the same time and use an anti-spyware program on a regular basis. They will also need you to not put yourself at the greatest risk either by visiting certain types of sites and not opening attachments from people you do not trust.

If you run the free versions of these av software programs, you will see that certain features like the firewall or and the email attachment scanner have been disabled. This is how you will pick up viruses. Another manner that you lay yourself open to problems is by downloading free utilities. These pieces of software almost always include tracking routines.

The software will work, but it will install a tracking cookie on your computer which will email home every day to its boss and tell them where you have been surfing, so that they can spam you with similar things.

Porn sites are another decent instance of dangerous web sites. You receive ‘free porn’, but they receive your IP address and possibly your email address too, which means that they are able to either spam you themselves or and sell your email address on so that half the world can spam you.

So, free av software is OK, but you have to help it. On the other hand paid software from a dependable company like Norton, Kaspersky and Nod, to name but a few, should take care of you without you having to do anything but pay and install and permit automatic updates. You can expect that from these companies and they are able to deliver that degree of protection for $50-60 a year and then you can download anything you like.

The Internet is very much a case of ‘you pays your money and you takes your choice’ and ‘free’ is definitely not always the best option.

The Best Tools For Adsense

Friday, July 8th, 2011

If you are considering attempting to earn some money with Google’s Adsense, it is worth doing some research first. After all, you have several items to think of before you start. These are things like the colour, the size and the place of the adverts themselves, but you also need to know Google’s rules for letting you make use of Adsense. For instance, there are restrictions on how many ads and search boxes you can put on any one page, but not on any one website.

Google itself provides a ton of information concerning which are the best size ads to use and where to place them. The first thing for anyone aspiring to use Adsense to do is go and read what Google has to say about its own product.

Experience may have taught you to be a bit suspicious when listening to people blowing their own trumpet and some scepticism is helpful here as well.

Google permits three ads, two links and three search bars per page (I think at the time of writing) and if you do not put all this stuff on your web page, Google will write to you suggesting that you do. Take this with a pinch of salt. Google does not really care whether you earn a living wage as long as everyone makes something, because they earn 50% of what you turn over. Times hundreds of millions of websites.

Let’s take these units one by one. First the search box: why would you want to supply your visitors with an easy escape path? You only get about 4-5 cents for doing it whereas if they click out in another way you can earn $6-$9. Crazy.

Second, the links: links pay out very low per click; far lower than the ads – again look for 5-6 cents a click. They are a waste of time. Third, the ads: the big ads are good and so are the skyscrapers. Other ads may work well on your site, they do not on mine and nor does the option of allowing picture ads.

Why put a big box ad and then hobble it by allowing one picture advertisement on it, when you can have four different text ads? Again, crazy. Now, just a consideration on this. This is pure conjecture you understand: if you put three ads going down your page and a link at the bottom, what occurs?

I have to assume that Google will position its most costly ads first to maximize revenue, so as the visitor reads down the page the ads are gradually becoming worth less money.

The reader gets to the bottom of the page and clicks out on your cheapest ads having by passed your expensive ads at the top. So why not just put one substantial advert block and be done with it?

Google gives plenty of help with statistics including which web pages earned the most money and where the surfers came from. Look for their link to Google Analytics and install the small piece of code on your site. You will learn a great deal. Learn to read your cPanel statistics as well and study them regularly

If your browser accepts Add-Ons, do a search for ‘Adsense’ maybe there are a few you will find useful.
