Meditation Music Sings To The Body

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Modern society is constantly competing for your attention. If it doesn’t beep, flash, zoom, or jump out at you, you are likely to miss it, or at least that is what all the designers of electronic gadgets would have you believe. You rush to work, worry over the duties of the day and try to get home before being stuck in a traffic jam. A whole industry known as meditation music has sprung up to help you find a bit of peace and sanity in this intense world.

All you need to do is type the phrase “meditation music” into your computer search engine and pages of musical recommendations and samples will appear. There are different genres within the overall theme. Most is instrumental. Some are synthesized recordings of sounds, natural and unnatural. A common theme is to transport you to the outdoors by listening to the rain falling, or whales singing. There are many options from which to choose to help you unwind.

Ethereal is a common adjective used to describe this type of music. It conjures up the thoughts of clouds above, a heavenly space, or an intangible airiness that seems to reach into your soul. Your body will start to naturally relax, your breathing will become steadier, and your pulse will slow. Medicals studies have shown the effects of meditation music on people and even pets. All good news for people who are excitable, easily stressed or battle high blood pressure.

Meditation music is often employed by massage therapists to help you quiet your mind, become present and feel more intensely your muscles release tension. Yoga instructors create their own mixes of meditation music to match the stretching motions and poses of their students. An entire industry has been established, broken down into subcategories, for massage, yoga, spa, and even for psychologist and doctor’s offices. No need to subject your clients to the often derided “elevator music” that produces more of a nauseated response than contemplative, when there is an alternative.

Another aspect of meditation music is one that uses frequencies called binaural beats and isochronic tones for producing various brainwave states that benefit the listener. This type of music is in a genre called brainwave entrainment.

Not everyone will enjoy all the types of meditation music. For some, classical piano speaks best, for others acoustic guitar, or more synthesized otherworldly sounds are preferred. There are so many options today. Native American ritual song, Gregorian Chants, and spiritual hymns qualify, and affect the soul of each person in a different way.

If you want to sample several before purchasing, several websites allow you to listen to snippets of songs from each compilation. You often have the option of purchasing mp3′s or cd’s.

Approach the process of meditation and listening with an open mind as well as open ears. Really take the time to sit still and let the music fill you with a sense of peace and quiet. You may just be better able to tackle that to-do list after giving yourself this soothing moment.

Lose Weight by Changing Negative Thoughts to Positive

Monday, May 17th, 2010

To use the law of attraction to lose weight, it is crucial to first release resistant thoughts that you are currently holding about your body. By resistant thoughts, I refer to those negative, degrading, unkind things you say to yourself (or about yourself) on a regular basis.

It is crucial to release these thoughts because they completely contradict the outcome you are trying to create, which is that slender, beautiful body you want so badly. You can spend 30 or 60 minutes each day visualizing your gorgeous body, but if you spend the rest of your time feeling angry and frustrated about the body you already have, you create a big problem.

You send out two conflicting intentions to the universe: one says, “I am aligned with having a slender body” and other says, “I am aligned with being overweight”. Whichever focus is your “dominant” focus (for most people it will be the overweight focus) will be the strongest one, and that’s the one that will keep manifesting.

There is a simple solution to this problem: stop allowing negative thoughts to take over your mind! That may not be easy at first, but if you simply start developing a stronger awareness so you can recognize the negative thoughts when they pop up, you will steadily find it easier to replace them with more positive thoughts.

Here’s an example so you can see how it looks in action: Let’s say that you are going along on a normal day, and you catch an unexpected glimpse of yourself in a window or mirror. Right away you feel shocked and saddened that you are still overweight, and negative thoughts start crashing through your mind: “Is that me? Man, I thought I was making better progress than that – I can’t believe I still have so far to go! Maybe I should just give up; it sure seems like I’m destined to stay this way. I’m doomed to be fat; great.”

These thoughts directly oppose the positive outlook you want to have about your body, so it’s important to rewrite them whenever they come up. By consistently rewriting them, you will eventually create a new outer reality.

“This reflection is merely a result of my past thoughts about my body. I can change it by seeing my body in a better light. I appreciate my body for being so resilient. I appreciate knowing that I can create a beautiful body by steadily changing my thoughts. Nothing has to stay the way it is forever – I have full control over the reflections I will see in the future!”

Keep going like this, thinking as many positive thoughts about your body as you can. The more you do so, the more dramatically you are going to alter the messages you convey to the universe, and the more quickly you will see the results in your body.

Keep in mind that you won’t change everything just by doing the exercise once or twice. It takes time to see lasting results, and you may have to be very persistent for several weeks as you patiently keep rewriting your negative thought habits. Whatever you do, don’t get frustrated – just keep working at it little by little, knowing that once these positive thoughts take root in your mind it will be much easier to stay focused on them permanently.

The Various Body Functions Of The Skin

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Most people would think of our skin as something that is meant to do nothing more than makes us attractive. Nothing can be farther from the truth though and its importance extends well beyond aesthetics. So important are its functions that it is officially classified as one of the organs in our body and the largest one at that. These functions are important enough that each one can significantly cripple our body’s well being

Now I won’t be going through all of them as there are certainly a lot of them but this article will just specify three of most important roles that it has to play.

Number one is very much evident and revolves around the fact that our skin acts as a protective cover shielding the internal organs of our bodies from outside factors by maintaining an endless arsenal of dead skin cells. One good example of this is when we sometimes get injured and our skin receives the blunt of these damages.

One other great function that our skin provides is it’s slow but significantly advanced abilities to heal which is very much evident when we recover from wounds or injuries. You can see a glimpse of this process actually taking place if you look at the red areas surrounding a particular wound. This is actually the work of your white blood cells warding of possible infection and growth hormones patching everything up.

Lastly, our skin is also a critical component for our body’s means to control its temperature. Just like an engine which can overheat without its cooling system, the very same thing can be said about our bodies. Our body’s ability to sweat through our skin is a key player in making that possible in response to relatively high temperature.

Now you might think that the fact that our skin is built to protect us doesn’t mean we shouldn’t return the favor. Quite the opposite actually and it is imperative that you take measures in order to keep it in good shape if you don’t want to come across skin problems such as acne.

Acne in specific details is one of the most common skin problems especially among teens. It is known to be caused by the presence of too much oil and dirt on your face which ends up blocking the hair follicles thereby causing the infection. Taking care of it is a relatively simple matter which can be done by washing your face with warm water frequently.

As you can see, your skin is much more precious than you might think and deserves all the care and respect that it needs.

Oak Patio Furniture

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Oak is one of the best woods to use for patio garden furniture. It is local to most Western countries and, being a hardwood, can withstand the weather, if treated correctly. It is very durable and, so long as you maintain it, it will give you enjoyment and comfort on your garden patio for decades to come.

Oak is certainly not inexpensive, but if you consider that it will last for ten to twenty years, whereas plastic and metal may last two to four years, it does not work out a bad deal over the long term and during that period, you will have been sitting on garden furniture that is the bee’s knees in every way.

Just a point of interest here that will give you more scope when you are buying your hardwood garden furniture, oak and cherry wood share many of the same characteristics as far as garden patio furniture is concerned.

The patterns of whorls and rings in the timber is truly beautiful, so in order to maintain the stocks of these trees, please make sure that your patio furniture comes from a replenishable source.

Make sure you follow the maker’s recommendations as far as maintenance is concerned. This will prolong the life of your hardwood furniture, ensuring that you will get extra life – up to twice as much – life out of your hardwood garden furniture.

The maker or craftsman will probably deliver your furniture primed and stained and maybe varnished too. If you get raw timber furniture, the maker is probably leaving your options open. The least you should do is rub an oil into it.

Ask at your decorators’ merchants or timber merchants which is the best. You could also stain it and varnish it. Ask to see examples before you go ahead, but it has to be done at least once a year anyway, so you can change approach when it wears off.

This grade of furniture will be seen often at commercial venues, because it is so hard wearing and long lasting, if correctly looked after. You should let commercial sense guide you and follow suit, if you can afford it. If you cannot afford a full suite of hardwood garden patio furniture all in one go, why not buy one or two pieces of furniture a year?

Once you have your furniture in place, you can start thinking about accessories. The most common accessories are lighting, power points, mosquito zappers, sun shades and patio heaters. You will perceive that restaurants and pubs with a patio will use patio heaters when the weather gets cooler. They have to do this, otherwise customers would vanish.

You can learn from this for your back garden. Get yourself a patio heater so that you can get pleasure from your garden patio in comfort every month of the year. Add a few extra plants and a few nocturnal blossoming plants. Put in a small pond with a fountain and some fish. Complete the whole picture with a few spotlights pointing at your favourite features and hang up a mosquito trap. This way you will get the most out of your oak or cherry wood garden patio furniture.
