Viewing The World In Real-Time Through Webcams

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

The internet has changed the way we look at the world, and exploring the planet can be done form the comfort of our own homes. Images and videos online make it possible to see things in a way nobody has been able to before.

In just a couple of decades, the internet has revolutionized how we do everything, and today we have access like never before.

Tools that Google has developed makes it fun and easy to point and click our way around the globe. Google Earth and Street View are two very popular ways to search for maps and satellite pictures of almost anything anywhere. Using these features, we can travel anywhere and re-live old memories or explore new destinations.

Only through internet technology can we have this kind of ability. As the internet continues to evolve, we will be able to visit places before we actually physically go there in greater detail.

Even though this stuff is amazing, one drawback is that some of the imagery can be out of date, and updates are slow to develop. One nice tool to enhance global satellite pictures that do not move is to provide views from live webcam feeds. Since webcams are virtually all over the world, we can get a glimpse of our living civilization like never before.

It can take a little time to find what you’re looking for because there are so many to choose from. Fortunately, some users out there that have started to organizes some of these webcams in directories. Directories are continually growing, and they make searching for live feeds easy and fast.

Going through a webcam directory gives users easy access to parts of the world that they may never have access to otherwise. From beaches to mountains in far away lands, webcams even took the world to Iceland when the Ejyafjallajokull volcano erupted.

There is a whole world waiting to be discovered on the internet, and webcams make much of this possible. Just when you think you’ve seen it all online, a new site shows up that gives us access unlike any other time in our history.

How To Keep Motivated And Achieve A Mindset Of Success

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Staying motivated from day to day with the stresses and hardships of life may seem hard, but it is essential. In fact, it is this motivation and determination that can mean the difference between success and failure. If you cannot keep motivated you will not be able to move forward toward your goal, whatever this goal may be. However, if you have been feeling low on energy, enthusiasm and motivation it is possible to turn this around and start to build a strong mindset of success. Here are just a few ways that I believe will help gear your mind toward success.

Take a break! Yes, that’s right; it is time to rest in order to start creating and maintaining your mindset of success. Whenever you do something for too long and get overwhelmed with it, this dramatically lowers your energy levels and your enthusiasm. Always being on-the-go and under pressure to meet deadlines and fulfil commitments absolutely stifles enthusiasm. How can you succeed in reaching that goal of yours if you are constantly burned-out? So, first rule – more breaks!

Try to create some “me-time” for yourself each day. Even if it’s just a few minutes, this will help you quieten your mind and centre yourself. Breathe deeply and try and clear your mind. Either listen to the silence or play some relaxing music – anything that helps you relax and regroup. I know this may be hard when you have so many things on your “to do” list, but make it a priority as it really is important, not only for creating a mindset of success but also for your general wellbeing. Recharging will help you stay positive, more creative and productive.

Find your inspiration. For many, inspiration can come from a special quote or favorite passage. Others may find it through a role model. Do not overwhelm yourself with all the individual tasks that need to be completed to reach your goal. The actual steps you need to take to achieve success may not be very exciting on their own, but think about how you will feel once you have actually achieved your goal.

Incorporate excitement into your daily routine. Think about the things you have to get done, and how great you will feel once you have successfully completed them. Make sure you think about how excited and enthused you were when you first began on the road to achieving your goal. Think about how your life will change once you have achieved the promotion, launched the new business, or lost that stubborn weight!

Whatever you do, just start. Procrastination is not your friend, it is your enemy. Any road that seems too long may become unattractive, but when you think of a long road from street light to street light, it becomes more manageable. You can take this scenario and give it to any goal you may have. Develop simple steps that you need to complete as you work towards your goal and this makes your goal seem much more achievable. You will feel more positive and upbeat and be in a better position to achieve and maintain a mindset of success.

One often overlooked aspect of success is physical health. Yes, you heard right. Keeping your body healthy will help your mind perform much more efficiently. If your body is constantly tired, the chances are your mind is just as tired and is slowing down your progression towards success.

Reducing sugar and processed goods in your diet can help give your energy a boost. Help your mind and body work as effectively as possible by drinking enough water, getting enough rest and exercising. By doing these things you are investing in your ultimate success.

Finally, you have to understand that the only person who can really create and maintain your mindset of success is you. There is only so much other people and your environment can give you; the rest is up to you. Make success your choice and your only option. When you are determined, excited and motivated, just start and you will begin to see the distance between you and your goal disappear. Good Luck!

Oak Patio Furniture

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Oak is one of the best woods to use for patio garden furniture. It is local to most Western countries and, being a hardwood, can withstand the weather, if treated correctly. It is very durable and, so long as you maintain it, it will give you enjoyment and comfort on your garden patio for decades to come.

Oak is certainly not inexpensive, but if you consider that it will last for ten to twenty years, whereas plastic and metal may last two to four years, it does not work out a bad deal over the long term and during that period, you will have been sitting on garden furniture that is the bee’s knees in every way.

Just a point of interest here that will give you more scope when you are buying your hardwood garden furniture, oak and cherry wood share many of the same characteristics as far as garden patio furniture is concerned.

The patterns of whorls and rings in the timber is truly beautiful, so in order to maintain the stocks of these trees, please make sure that your patio furniture comes from a replenishable source.

Make sure you follow the maker’s recommendations as far as maintenance is concerned. This will prolong the life of your hardwood furniture, ensuring that you will get extra life – up to twice as much – life out of your hardwood garden furniture.

The maker or craftsman will probably deliver your furniture primed and stained and maybe varnished too. If you get raw timber furniture, the maker is probably leaving your options open. The least you should do is rub an oil into it.

Ask at your decorators’ merchants or timber merchants which is the best. You could also stain it and varnish it. Ask to see examples before you go ahead, but it has to be done at least once a year anyway, so you can change approach when it wears off.

This grade of furniture will be seen often at commercial venues, because it is so hard wearing and long lasting, if correctly looked after. You should let commercial sense guide you and follow suit, if you can afford it. If you cannot afford a full suite of hardwood garden patio furniture all in one go, why not buy one or two pieces of furniture a year?

Once you have your furniture in place, you can start thinking about accessories. The most common accessories are lighting, power points, mosquito zappers, sun shades and patio heaters. You will perceive that restaurants and pubs with a patio will use patio heaters when the weather gets cooler. They have to do this, otherwise customers would vanish.

You can learn from this for your back garden. Get yourself a patio heater so that you can get pleasure from your garden patio in comfort every month of the year. Add a few extra plants and a few nocturnal blossoming plants. Put in a small pond with a fountain and some fish. Complete the whole picture with a few spotlights pointing at your favourite features and hang up a mosquito trap. This way you will get the most out of your oak or cherry wood garden patio furniture.

Chocolate For The Chocoholic

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

I have a couple of questions for you first of all. Do you like chocolate? Or does it go deeper than that? Do you love chocolate are you what is called a chocoholic? And lastly, was that attitude fashioned by store-bought chocolate such as Mars Bars, Galaxy and Snickers?

I asked all those questions because, if you love chocolate and all you have ever tasted is store-bought chocolate, you have a real surprise waiting for you one day. A really fantastic revelation. One day you will taste gourmet chocolate and it will bowl you over. It will make you regret all those days of your life that you had not known it.

Gourmet chocolate is to a Mars Bar what fillet mignon is to a beef sandwich or what champagne is to cheap wine. It sounds as if I am running Mars Bars down and I suppose I am in a way, but I do believe that they have their place in the hierarchy of the world of chocolate, it is just not near the top and when you have tried gourmet chocolate, you will agree with me.

You will see the light and realize that maybe you used to eat store chocolate for the sugar rush and not for the chocolate, because the store variety is in fact a very watered down copy of the real thing. If you do not believe me, look at the ingredients list on the back of the wrapper.

Dark chocolate is created by adding fat and sugar to the cacao mixture. The U.S. Government calls this “sweet chocolate”, and demands a 15% concentration of chocolate liquor. European regulations specify a minimum of 35% cocoa solids. It does not sound very much, does it? (By the way, chocolate liquor is like lumpy gravy and if you pulverize the lumps and take away most of the fat, you get cocoa solids).

This is why European chocolate has a better name than American chocolate in general, although there are excellent gourmet chocolate manufacturers in the USA (called chocolatiers; like a chef is to haute cuisine)..

Some inexpensive chocolates are even blended with wax and most bakery chocolate products have very little, if any, real chocolate in them! They contain mostly sugar of one kind or another and “partially hydrogenated palm oil.” On the other hand, gourmet chocolate will echo the quality of the ingredients, which includes high quality cocoa beans, no preserving agents or vegetable fats (other than cocoa butter) and sugar, which is also a preserving agent, should only be used in moderation.

Some chocolate is made from only one kind of bean, just like some wine is made from one kind of gape and some whisky is single malt, but most is made from a blend of several kinds of beans again lust like the cheaper wines and whiskeys. Fine chocolate has a far greater percentage of cocoa butter, and will be more highly refined.

Aficionados of gourmet chocolate are like connoisseurs of fine wines and single malt whiskies, they appreciate the object of their affection. In time, they can discuss the advantages of one bean or process over another. If you want to go down this route, you could join one of the many good gourmet chocolate clubs on the Internet

Selecting A Screen For Your Home Theater

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

If you are thinking about setting up a home theater system, then there are three essential pieces of equipment to consider. They are the screen, the speakers and the player. Two of these pieces of equipment are directly linked to the dimensions of the room in which you will be sitting and where you will be sitting.

All DVD players over a certain price are pretty good and you ought to listen to a couple to make up your mind. The same with speakers, although how many you will need is dependent on the proportions of the room. The screen is more important and that is what I want to discuss here.

It will not actually be of very much help to you to just walk into a department store which stocks fifty or sixty television sets all in a line. You may find that you have a preference for one screen’s colour display over another, but the colours are controllable anyway by brightness, contrast and colour mix. You need to view the screen as it will be seen in your home theater.

In order to do this, I always advise getting a pen, paper, preferably graph paper, and a rule. Draw in the proportions of the room to the largest scale that the sheet of paper allows, maybe one inch for two feet or there abouts. Then draw a line to represent the screen against whichever wall you choose and finally add a few squares for the seating. Now measure the space between them and write that figure down, because it is very important.

Using our scale above, if the gap on paper between the screen and the seats is five inches, the distance in the room will be ten feet and ten feet is 120 inches. A good rule of thumb, when trying to work out screen size is the same one used for paintings, which is that the ideal viewing distance of a picture is between three and five times its diagonal measurement. Therefore, in our illustration, the ideal screen size should be between 40 and 24 inches. Nevertheless, many experts put a minimum screen size for a home theater at 28 inches.

That may come as a bit of a surprise to many of you, because a lot of people think that the answer is the bigger the better. However, primed with this information, now go to the TV store and look at the TV’s again. You will find that if you get up too close to some sorts of screen the picture becomes rather poor, particularly with conventional television screens. Plasma and HDTV permit you to get a little closer without losing quality.

Another factor is your age, or at least, the quality of your eyesight. Would you rather watch the film with your glasses on or off? Off for me, so I would tend towards the higher end of our scale or maybe even go above it. My eyes are not going to get any better, but I can always put my glasses on when the time comes that I cannot see my screen properly any longer. However, I want to put that time off for a while yet, so I would go for a 48 inch screen in this illustration for my home theater. Plasma, if I could afford it.
